Subject: Asst. Dept. Head, Serials - Position Announcement

Position Announcement:

Assistant Department Head, Serials Control Department

The Georgia Institute of Technology Library and Information Center seeks a
creative, customer-oriented serials librarian to serve as assistant
department head in the Serials Control Department.  This position will
manage serial acquisitions, including electronic journals.  This position
will also participate in imaging projects as part of the Library's ongoing
virtual library initiative.

Responsibilities:  This position reports to the Head, Serials Control
Department, which includes 8 paraprofessional staff and several student
assistants. This position serves as the department head in the department
head's absence and participates in departmental planning and
administration.  In addition, this position manages serial acquisitions
including electronic journals, maintains library Web pages for electronic
journals, and provides complex problem-solving for serial acquisitions and
receipt.  Participates in virtual library initiatives and must be eager to
learn imaging and other multi-media virtual library technology.
Participates actively in professional and scholarly activities including
library, university and professional committees, research and publication.

Qualifications:

Required:  Accredited MLS; 2 or more years of paraprofessional or post-MLS
experience with serials in an academic or special library.  Experience with
an integrated library system including automated serials control; knowledge
of HTML; knowledge of principles of serials management and trends in
electronic journal publishing.  Excellent oral and written communication
skills and interpersonal skills.  Evidence of organizational and analytical
skills. Ability to participate successfully in projects, including virtual
library projects.  Considerable ability to work independently and in teams.
 US citizenship or permanent residency required.

Desired:  Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and
Access; experience with Photoshop or other image editing software;
experience using a national bibliographic utility and knowledge of USMARC.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.  Review of
