HEAD, CATALOGING AND BIBLIOGRAPHIC ACCESS DEPARTMENT

American University's Washington College of Law Library is seeking a
librarian to head its Cataloging and Bibliographic Access Department.
Responsibilities include supervising and coordinating the cataloging
workflow, and training and evaluating both professional and
para-professional catalogers and staff.  The incumbent will perform
original cataloging of monographs and serials in all formats using AACR2,
LC classification schedules, LCSH, OCLC, and INNOPAC, and participate in
reference and collection development activities.  The successful candidate
will have a flexible, imaginative approach to new procedures, evidence of
strong communication, mentoring, and decision-making skills, evidence of
professional and scholarly activity, and a commitment to fostering a
collaborative work environment.

Required:  ALA-accredited MLS, 3 or more years of progressively
responsible cataloging experience using online systems, and thorough
knowledge of AACR2, LCSH, MARC format and LC classification schedules.
Demonstrated supervisory skills.

Preferred:  Experience in an academic law library and/or working knowledge
of legal materials, knowledge of foreign languages, and familiarity with
developing standards for bibliographic control of electronic resources.

This is a tenure track position. Salary is commensurate with
qualifications and experience. A record of professional growth,
scholarship/creative activity and services in keeping with University
standards is expected for promotion and tenure consideration.
