CATALOGER (ACADEMIC LIBRARIAN II)   (SEARCH EXTENDED)

DESCRIPTION:  North Dakota State University Libraries has an immediate
opening for an Original Cataloger.  This full-time, 12 month position
reports to the Head of Technical Services.  Responsibilities include:
Original cataloging and complex copy cataloging of monographs, serials,
electronic resources, and audiovisual materials.  Coordinates OCLC
operations.  Assists in the establishment of cataloging policies and
procedures.  Performs authority work on names and series in accordance
with local and national standards. Regular reference duties.  Participates
in appropriate professional development and scholarly activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:  REQUIRED:  MLS degree from an ALA accredited program.
MINIMUM of three years post-MLS experience in an academic or research
library, primarily in cataloging and bibliographic control activities.
Knowledge and experience with AACR2, MARC, LCSH, LCRI, LCCS, DDC, OCLC and
an integrated local library system.  Strong analytical and problem-solving
skills, excellent oral and written communication skills;  interest in a
wide variety of cataloging issues and problems; ability to work
effectively in a changing environment; experience working independently
and collaboratively; and an ability to interact positively and
productively.  PREFFERED:  Experience cataloging electronic resources,
working knowledge of German.

COMPENSATION:  $30,000+/ year.  Benefits include TIAA/CREF and Blue Cross
/Blue Shield.
