Oregon State University

Oregon State University invites nominations and applications for two
Associate University Librarians.  We are seeking applicants with strong
leadership skills who are innovative, flexible, collaborative and
committed to creating the library of the future.

Associate University Librarians share in the overall administration of the
University Libraries which consist of a main collection of over one
million volumes in The Valley Library on the Corvallis campus and one
branch library in Newport.  The overall budget is $7 million with a staff
of 35 librarians and 41 support staff.  Upon completion of a $47 million
renovation/expansion project in December 1998, The Valley Library will
total 340,000 sq. ft. and offer state-of-the-art information services.
Installation of an Innovative Interfaces Inc. system is currently
underway.  The University Libraries are part of OSU's Information Services
which also includes the Communication Media Center, Central Computing, and
Network Services.  Reporting to the University Librarian, the Associate
University Librarians are members of the Library's administrative
management group.

Associate University Librarians at Oregon State University have key roles
in policy decisions, organizational planning and budget allocations.  They
are responsible for providing leadership and counsel regarding the future
direction of libraries and library services. Each AUL will have a
distinct portfolio:

The AUL for Access, Collections and Technical Services will provide
leadership in all aspects of collections management including selection,
acquisition, cataloging and circulation.  Skills in work flow analysis are
highly desirable.

The AUL for Public Services and Innovative Technology will have
responsibility for providing leadership for reference and instruction
services, special collections, government information and maps, ongoing
digitization projects and the OSU Newport branch campus.  Experience in
assessing library services in relation to campus needs is highly
desirable.

Responsibility for budgeting, automation, grant writing and statistical
analysis will be distributed between the two positions.  As tenure-track
faculty members, OSU librarians serve on committees and task forces both
at the departmental and university level and participate fully in local,
state and national/international professional and scholarly societies and
organizations.

Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited library program or foreign
equivalent; record of research and scholarship; applied knowledge of the
principles of library management and organization; demonstrated commitment
to working with and through teams; ability to articulate how emerging
technologies influence teaching and scholarship; excellent oral/written
communication skills; excellent interpersonal and critical problem solving
skills; and a passion for libraries.  Employment Conditions: Full-time,
12-month, tenure-track, faculty appointment; salary and rank commensurate
with education and qualifications as they relate to each position with
minimum salary at $56,000. Excellent benefits.  Academic faculty members
earn 15 hours of vacation and 8 hours of sick leave each month.
