Under the direction of the Bibliographic Services Department Head, this position supervises a unit which performs and develops increasingly integrated acquisitions and cataloging processes for monographic materials, including government publications. In addition to participating in the Bibliographic Services Management Group, supervises three FTE staff and may supervise students and interns in projects using OCLC, INNOPAC, and specialized vendor software. Works closely with the Acquisitions Librarian on vendor processes and performance issues. Directs and performs all aspects of original and edit cataloging and serves as a resource person in discussions of monographic description and access in a web-based environment. Fosters communication and effective relationships within the Library and University. In addition to active participation in Library and University committees, serves as a subject specialist which includes resource selection and faculty liaison responsibilities. Provides reference assistance at a designated service desk. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: MLS from ALA-accredited school required, monographic cataloging experience with emphasis on original or complex edit cataloging preferred. Supervisory and monographs acquisitions experience preferred. Other preferred qualifications follow. Experience with AACR2R, LCSH, LC, SUDOCS classification schedules, MARC formats, integrated library systems, and major cataloging utilities. Demonstrated interest in the description, indexing, and presentation of information for a web-based user environment. Evidence of innovation in the application of cataloging skills to enhances public access. Familiarity with emerging trends in libraries, higher education, and distance education. Strong commitment to improving library access for distributed learners and to making bibliographic and metadata decisions that increase visibility of monographic holdings. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in a diverse workplace and a multi-cultural learning environment; evidence of flexibility and enjoyment of collaborative endeavors.
