Please pardon any duplication. ***************************** HEAD OF ACQUISITIONS UNIT Clemson University Libraries seek an innovative and enthusiastic librarian to manage the acquisition of monographs, serials, and electronic resources in a collaborative work environment. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Head of the Acquisitions Unit directs all activities of the unit and reports to the Dean of University Libraries. Maintains control of a materials budget of $2.6 million. Tracks funds, serial costs and inflation. Maintains business relationships with vendors. Negotiates and manages contracts and licenses for digital information products. Maintains awareness of trends in scholarly communication and publishing. Keeps abreast of changes in the Copyright Law and its applications to the library market. Leads a staff of fourteen people (1 faculty and 13 classified staff) involved in acquisition of monographs and serials, binding, and associated fiscal activities. Recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates staff. Serves as an ex officio member of the Information Access Committee, the policy setting committee for information resources. Works closely with the Heads of the Cataloging Unit, Systems Unit, and branch libraries to set policies and procedures for technical services functions. Will lead the implementation of the acquisitions and serials modules of the new integrated library system (DRA Taos). Serves on the Libraries Administrative Council. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited master�s degree in library science, demonstrated experience in acquisitions and supervision. Strongly preferred: At least five years experience with acquisitions, serials, and financial components of integrated library systems, knowledge of domestic and foreign publishing, experience in negotiating with vendors and publishers. Experience with digital information resources, including the legal and business issues of digital acquisitions and electronic publishing, and in negotiating licenses and fees. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively. Experience with OCLC. SALARY AND BENEFITS: $35,000 minimum. Negotiable, depending upon qualifications. Faculty status, 12-month tenure track position; SC or TIAA-CREF and other retirement plans; various medical and dental plans; 18 days annual leave; 15 days sick leave; 12 paid holidays; and liberal professional development leave. Tuition benefit for Clemson employees. LIBRARY: Clemson University Libraries have a staff of 31 librarians and 68 support staff. The collection includes approximately 6,400 serial titles and 1,500,000 volumes. The Libraries use OCLC and are migrating from NOTIS to DRA Taos in 1999.
