Assistant/Associate Professor
Systems Librarian

The University of New Hampshire Library invites applications for the
position of Systems Librarian to manage and maintain daily operations of
library systems and to guide the continued integration of information
technology into the library'�s operations and services.  Reporting to the
University Librarian, the Systems Librarian serves as a department head
and chairs the library'�s information technology committee.  The Systems
Librarian supervises one full-time technical systems administrator and
one part-time student assistant.  This is a twelve-month tenure track
position with appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate
Professor, depending on qualifications.  The successful candidate will
be expected to meet library and university requirements for
reappointment, promotion, and tenure.

The University Library has a collection of over 1.1 million volumes and
substantial serials, document, microform, audiovisual, and special
collections.  The library uses the INNOPAC integrated library system,
with over 125 public workstations providing access to the Internet and
local CD-ROM resources.  Staff workstations variously utilize Windows
95/98, NT, and Mac operating systems, in coordination with NT and Unix
servers.  The University Library includes the newly renovated and
expanded Dimond Library, four branch libraries, a storage facility, and
a staff of 75, of whom 21 are faculty.  It serves a full-time teaching
faculty of over 600 and a student body of about 12,000 undergraduate and
graduate students.

UNH is located near the New Hampshire seacoast and about a 90-minute
drive from Boston to the south and the White Mountains to the north.  It
is a Land Grant, Sea Grant, and Space Grant institution.  UNH faculty
are represented by the AAUP.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Coordinate planning and implementation of electronic
information services for the library; work to assure the effective
integration of resources across a multi-platform and database
environment.  Provide for IT training and continuing education of
library staff and faculty in the use of equipment, software, networks
and remote information resources.  Plan, consult with, and advise
departments in the application of IT to their operations; provide
technical support as requested for new and existing staff or
departmental installations.  Communicate effectively with campus, state,
and regional IT agencies and groups, and with the library'�s IT vendors.
Be responsible for the installation, administration, and maintenance of
public workstations, various library servers, and other library-wide
resources, both hardware and software.  Communicate systems information
and changes to library staff; prepare and distribute local system
documentation as necessary.  Advise library administration on IT budget
preparation, negotiation, and purchasing.  Maintain library home page.
Prepare grant proposals; implement and evaluate grant programs dealing
with technology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA-accredited master'�s degree; experience in
managing library systems; proven analytical and communication skills;
and a commitment to responsive and innovative service.  Preferred:
academic training in information technology, including server
development, Windows NT and Unix operating systems, CD-ROM technologies,
Internet protocols and WWW formatting languages; experience with
Innovative Interfaces� integrated library system (INNOPAC).  Preference
will be given those candidates holding a second advanced degree, which
is required by the Library for promotion and tenure.

Salary is commensurate with experience, minimum $40,000.
