        Vacancy Announcement:  Head of Serials Department

The Hoover Institution is seeking qualified candidates for an initial
three-year term position. This is a career-track position, meaning that
after the initial term, the person hired will be eligible for a continuing

Classification:
                Assistant Librarian (C-5)  In-Hire Range: $36,132-$47,436
                Associate Librarian (C-6) In-Hire Range: $40,044-$53,136

The Head of the Serials Department reports directly to the Head Librarian
of the Western Languages Library and is responsible for the administration
of the Serials Department and for coordinating its activities with other
units in technical services and with the Library in general. The Department
is primarily responsible  for the ordering, receiving and claiming of
serials and newspapers for the Library. The Library currently maintains
subscriptions to approximately 3,200 serial and newspaper titles from
around the world in the Roman, Cyrillic and Arabic alphabets. It also
includes a public service component. The Western Languges Library of the
Hoover Institution specializes in the collecting of materials to support
research on all aspects of the political, social and economic history of
the twentieth century, especially for Eastern and Western Europe, Africa
and the Middle East.

Qualifications:
     Required
        * ALA-accredited M.L.S.
        * Proven supervisory experience, interpersonal and leadership skills
        * Professional experience working in a serials department or equivalent
        * Demonstrated knowledge of serials librarianship
        * Knowledge of one or more modern European languages
        * Ability to communicate clearly in written and spoken English

     Preferred
        * Demonstrated analytical, planning and management skills
        * Experience dealing with vendors
        * Experience in an academic library
        * Experience in public services
        * Experience in serials cataloging
