This summer, the State Historical Society of Wisconsin Library will fill several
management, professional, and paraprofessional positions. If all goes according
to schedule, these will  be announced officially at the end of May and in the
beginning of June, and the people hired will start in July and August.

Short descriptions of these upcoming positions are given below. All positions
include the excellent State of Wisconsin benefit package. Salaries given are
only approximate (depending upon the state's FY2000-01 budget currently in the

HEADS OF REFERENCE/ACCESS and CATALOG SECTIONS (two middle-management
positions). Each supervises 7-12 staff and through them a large number of
students and volunteers. Duties include program planning and administration,
budget and personnel responsibilities, and some hands-on professional work in
reference or cataloging. Starting salary in the high 'thirties.

GOVERNMENT PUBLICATIONS SPECIALIST. The Historical Society has been a regional
depository for more than a century, and this position administers our depository
program responsibilities and provides hands-on outreach, BI, and reference
service. Starting salary in the low 'forties.

REFERENCE LIBRARIAN (half-time, evenings). Provides face-to-face and telephone
reference service to students, faculty, visiting scholars and the general public
in all areas of American history, including government publications and
genealogy. 20 hours per week (4-9pm Monday-Thursday) with occasional Saturdays.
Starting salary around $14,400 (half-time).

CATALOGER (three positions: 2 full-time and 1 at 62.5%). These grant-funded
positions are devoted to retrospective conversion of material only represented
in the card catalog to date. The two full-time positions work with a variety of
materials while the part-time position is specifically for rare books. Starting
salary around $27,600 full-time (or $17,200 part-time).

PROGRAM ASSISTANT (half-time). Provides administrative support to the library
management team, including fiscal management, basic computer trouble-shooting,
editing and writing, coordinating public events, and occasional backup service
at the reference desk. Starting salary around $12,400 (half-time).
