          POSITION:  Original Cataloger
          LOCATION:  Wallace Library, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)
          START DATE:  07/01/99

          RIT's Wallace Library seeks a forward-thinking librarian to join a
          team of service-oriented individuals in providing access to print
          and electronic collections, and in investigating and applying new
          approaches to description, subject analysis, and classification in
          the environment of an active, technologically adept academic
          library.

          QUALIFICATIONS:  ALA-accredited MLS degree. Minimum of three years'
          post-MLS experience, with expert knowledge of AACR2-R, LCRIs, LC
          CLassification, USMARC formats, and authority control concepts and
          procedures within an academic, large public or special library
          setting.  Extensive experience with an integrated library system
          (Innovative Interfaces preferred) and the bibliographic utility
          OCLC.  Experience with OCLC's Cataloging MicroEnhancer software and
          PromptCat service. Experience in using microcomputer applications
          in a cataloging environment (such as Microsoft Office) and
          experience in using the Internet. Must be a self-directed,
          innovative and flexible team player, able to meet goals, with
          excellent interpersonal, analytical, written, verbal, and
          organizational skills.  Knowledge of trends in access to digital
          information and emerging metadata standards (familiarity with HTML,
          EAD, TEI, XML, etc. preferred).

          SALARY AND BENEFITS:  40's, commensurate with experience. Excellent
          benefits.

          JOB SETTING:  Dynamic academic library with a great staff of 42 at
          a progressive, technical university in upstate New York.  Library
          services approximately 14,000 students and 2,200 faculty/staff,
          maintains approximately 400,000 volumes and over 1,100 electronic
