ALCTS Role of the Professional in Academic Technical Services Discussion
Group; Sunday June 27, 2:00-4:00 p.m.; Ernest N. Moriel Convention Center,
Room 272

TOPIC: What is the Role of the Technical Services Librarian in the
Development and Implementation of New Library Services?

Is there a place for the technical services professional in the
development and implementation of new library services? What special
skills and talents might such a person bring to the process? If a new
service is implemented without contribution by professionals from
technical services, what is the loss to the library and its patrons?

Come and hear Deborah Lee (Coordinator of Serials, Mississippi State
University), Elizabeth McClenney (Associate Librarian for Technical
Services, Viriginia State University) and Manuel Urrizola (Serials
Cataloging Librarian, University of California-Irvine) speak on these and
related questions.

The presentations will be followed by a discussion hour, when attendees
can relate their own experiences and opinions, as well as ask questions of
both the panel and audience.
