Robert Van Pelt Library at Michigan Technological University seeks a Head of Serials and Acquisitions to help us move toward a digital library and meet our commitment to providing electronic access to information. The Head, Serials and Acquisitions will supervise a unit which acquires, catalogs and coordinates access to print and electronic materials in a variety of formats; serve as the Library's electronic licensing coordinator; and provide leadership for the continuing development of our serials/acquisitions module. REQUIRED Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA accredited institution. Two years experience working in serials cataloging, serials management and/or acquisitions. Experience working with automated bibliographic utilities (e.g. OCLC). Demonstrated knowledge of AACR2, LC classification, LCSH and USMARC formats; library trends in an electronic environment; and current automated library systems. Demonstrated competence in current library technology applications. Demonstrated ability to function in a collaborative, service-oriented environment and to adapt to a frequently changing environment. Excellent interpersonal, problem- solving, team building, leadership, and written/oral communication skills. DESIRABLE Experience in a research or academic library in serials cataloging or acquisitions. Experience using Endeavor's Voyager library management system. Demonstrated knowledge of the National Serials Cataloging Standards (CONSER). Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently. Demonstrated commitment to the service and educational roles of academic libraries. BENEFITS Salary expected to be $30,000. Competitive benefits package.
