The University of North Carolina at Wilmington is a member institution of the University of North Carolina, and is nationally recognized for its marine sciences teaching and research programs, and for its strengths in arts and sciences, business, education, and nursing. The University is situated on a beautiful arboretum campus located in an historic port city within five miles of the Atlantic Ocean. The University currently enrolls nearly 9,700 students with projected growth to reach 12,000 by 2005. SENIOR CATALOG LIBRARIAN: (Pos #6561) Randall Library is seeking an experienced catalog librarian with the ability to catalog in all formats, with an emphasis on electronic resources and serials. This individual also coordinates and supervises the cataloging activities of three (3) full time support staff, and is instrumental in maintaining and improving the efficiency of a unit that processes approximately 18,000 volumes a year. Also assists in staffing the Reference Desk four to six (4-6) hours per week, including weekend rotation. The position is in the Technical Services Unit and reports to the Associate University Librarian for Technical & Collection Services. REQUIREMENTS: ALA accredited Master's degree in Library & Information Science and at least three (3) years professional cataloging experience including non-book cataloging and at least one (1) year supervisory experience required. Requires excellent interpersonal/supervisory skills and the ability to work collegially with a total library staff of forty-one (41) to develop and provide outstanding library services. Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills are required to work in a highly automated, rapidly changing environment. Experience required working with computing systems, an integrated library system, and a bibliographic utility, preferably INNOPAC and OCLC. Required thorough knowledge of AACR2, LC Subject Headings and Classification, USMARC, and a commitment to adhering to national cataloging rules and standards. Ability to serve at the reference desk and assist patrons in an academic library setting required. SALARY & BENEFITS: Salary $34,000 or commensurate with labor market. Twelve month contract with faculty status (non-tenure track.) Generous benefits package.
