This position will manage serials acquisitions, including electronic journals. RESPONSIBILITIES: This position reports to the Head, Serials Control Department. This position participates in departmental planning and administration for a department that includes 8 support staff; manages serials acquisitions for serials in all formats, including electronic journals; collaborates with cataloging and systems to provide bibliographic and public access to electronic journals; provides complex problem-solving for serials acquisitions and receipt; participates in library, Institute, professional and scholarly activities. ENVIRONMENT: The Library and Information Center, a member of the Association of Research Libraries, is central to the Institute's instructional and research programs. The Georgia Institute of Technology, with nearly 20,000 faculty, students, and staff, is one of the nation's outstanding universities, with nationally recognized academic programs in science and engineering. The Library is a leader in library automation and a participant in the statewide consortium, Galileo, and provides access to an ever-increasing number of databases and electronic journals. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA accredited MLS; excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; evidence of organizational and analytical skills; considerable ability to work independently and in teams. US citizenship or permanent residency required. Desired: Professional or paraprofessional experience with serials and/or acquisitions in an academic or special library; experience with an integrated library system and working with vendors and publishers; knowledge of trends in electronic journal publishing; knowledge of HTML; knowledge of USMARC; knowledge of relational databases, such as Microsoft Access or Oracle.
