     Hi Helaine,

Thanks for your suggestions. I think most of them will be very
useful. I have heard the Serials person at TLC is very good, and
I'm
sure I'll get to be familiar with him as progress.

Do you barcode each journal? Do you check out journals? We
haven't
figured out yet how we are going to do this. We do check out
journal
issues, but do not barcode (and don't want to) each issue. Our
trainer
said we'd have to set up separate MARC records (for the old issues,
and the "from now forward" issues OR we would have to predict our
serials from the beginning of our receiving them, and check them
all
in. Does this ring any bells with you? I'll explain more if this
is
also something you are dealing with. We haven't decided yet. I'm
all
for a 3rd alternative, but haven't thought of it yet!

     Mary Iber

Our library has just transferred over to "Library. Solutions" from
"TinMan"
(EOSi) also. We did get training which included the serials module. We
have several irregular serials. When you click on regularity patterns
you
can click on month by month for those that you receive. If it is really
irregular you can use the manual check in instead of prediction. The
only
problem is if you want to edit anything, you have make sure to return
the
problem issues before you edit each (I hope that you can understand what
I
mean). TLC does have a special serials person in the help desk also who
is
very patient. What I did was start with all our Ebsco serials since
that
was the largest amount of titles that we receive and then do others as
they
come in. I had been keeping a log of issues during our changeover so
these
are all input one by one. The rest of the holdings I will hopefully be
able
to put in the catalog record later.

Our library is in the process of switching to a new automated
system.
The only part of the serials record that transferred is the bib
record. We are a corporate library and hold about 600 titles. We
are
going from EOSi Professional Series (DOS based) to The Library
     Corporation (Windows based).

If any of you have experience or suggestions on the best procedure
to
follow for reentering prediction patterns, holdings, etc., please
let
     me know.

Did you start alphabetically, or make the changes as the serials
     arrive, or what?

Did you try to transfer subscription history?

Any estimate on how long it takes?

We also route almost all of our subscriptions, so need to transfer
     routing lists.

For a short time, I will have two computers on my desk, so I have
the
ability to have the record up from the old system and the new
system
     at the same time.

Any suggestions are welcome, whether they are general or specific.

     Thank you.
