THE CONTINUING EDUCATION PROGRAM
Faculty of Information Studies, University of Toronto
presents a two-day workshop

CATALOGING SERIALS

This course provides the basic principles of serials cataloging for
original and copy cataloging for print and electronic serials. The
course focuses on the elements contained in the core record, as well
as problem-solving and decision-making relative to serials cataloging.
All materials are based on the CONSER Editing Guide and CONSER
Cataloging Manual, AACR2 and the Library of Congress Rule
Interpretations. Materials provided.

The instructors for the workshop are senior cataloguers who have
completed the Serials Cataloging Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP)
under the auspices of the CONSER (Cooperative ONline SERials) Program.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Designed for those new to serials: beginning serials catalogers and
technicians and monograph catalogers working with serials.

INSTRUCTORS:
Carol M. Baker (BSc, MLS) is Acting Manager, Bibliographic Services at
the University of Calgary.  She has over 14 years of serials
cataloguing experience, both as a serials cataloguer as well as a
supervisor and trainer of serials cataloguers.  She recently completed
the train-the-trainer session for the new CONSER coordinated Serials
Cataloging Cooperative Training Program (SCCTP).

Jeanne Baker is head of the Serials Cataloguing Unit at the McKeldin
Library, University of Maryland with many years experience in serials
and monograph cataloguing. She has been active in CONSER,
participating as a member of the PCC/CONSER Task Group on Journals in
Aggregator Databases. She has been  appointed to the Program for
Cooperative Cataloging Standing Committee on Automation.
