Obviously it didn’t pan out , but I wonder if the basic design is valid? (We’ll ignore the ‘trailing cables to catch bombers', which would make for a briefly interesting Nantucket Sleigh Ride for the unfortunate defenders…)

Interestingly enough I *do* reading about a scheme the Luftwaffe actually did try in WWII defending against allied day=bombers.
They cooked up a scheme where a/c flew above the bomber formation, trailed out long cables & then released them to fall thru the bombers.
It turned out to be ineffective.
