The Traveller Adventure - part XIX

A quick recap for those just dropping in; or for regular readers who find the two month intervals a stretch of the memory: I’m running The Traveller Adventure for a group of players in Portsmouth made up of (currently), two library work colleagues, one former university lecturer and one long time Traveller fan who lives locally and has shared TravCon experiences with me for a decade.

Timothy, this sounds like an awesome adventure in it’s own right,

awww... thank you.

for a ‘one off’ side visit somewhere where ‘nothing happens’.

if you're referring to Carsten (mentioned in passing at the start of the write up, I suppose it would be remiss of me not to mention for those who don't know, that you can actually buy that on DriveThru (Two Days on Carsten) if you're interested.  I only didn't mention it because I rather thought I'd gone on about it enough that there can be few here who weren't aware!

If you meant another similar side adventure - ie. what the write up was mainly reporting on - which I haven't really named yet, I suppose eventually I'll try and publish it similarly via DriveThru.  But it will be a while as I'm hoping to get another Steve Ellis special out first.  This one is called The Zhodani Candidate and went well at TravCon a few years back.  A 'high level' role playing adventure rather like Eve of Rebellion - this time with Norris and a potential Zho spy.

Your players have great fortune with you as a GM; I'm envious!

Well, I suspect any skilled/experienced role players would be frustrated by my lack of skills in certain areas [1].  I still feel I'm learning new things every time I run a game.  I still kick myself after when I think of things I've missed or could have done better.  But much to my astonishment we are still going 19 sessions (3 years+) later, so someone's having fun I presume!

Now, I really must learn some ship combat ready for Trade War!  I was reading the other day (White Dwarf?) how deadly it is but they were talking about classic Traveller, so I'm hoping Mongoose rules are a bit more survivable.  Of course, knowing my lot, we'll take a hit on the cargo bay and be more concerned about the toilet roll supplies than the oxygen running out...

anyway, had better sleep
all the best

[1] Player agency springs to mind.
As does: interesting combat, decent direct speech from NPCs and logistics of my note keeping - which seems ironic for a librarian.  Not to mention that in a merchant-based adventure we actually do next to no merchanting at all!  (We spent an evening with the trade rules and enjoyed it as a one off but now pretty much they leave the buying and selling to me to manage 'off stage' between sessions.  If I do it at all.)  (Then again, in the same way we don't role play every minute of Jump or every conversation with Starport traffic control or whatever, why not just focus on the adventury bits and assume trade is going on and (some) money is being made?!)
