Afternoon of Roy, WA Phil,

CT LBB 2: JD fuel = 0.1 x Hull tonnage x Jump number and Power Plant fuel is 10 x Power plant number

CT LBB 5 HG:  JD fuel = 0.1 x Hull tonnage x Jump number and Power Plant fuel is .010 x Hull tonnage x Power plant number

The JTAS 4 Gazelle is a unclear but I think that it is a hybrid design using CT LBB 2 1977 and CT LBB 5 HG 1979. The problem is that there is not PA barbette in CT LBB 5 HG 1979. However, there is a 10 ton PA bay with values of 10 at TL 13, 12 at TL 14, and 16 at TL 15. Splitting the 10 ton by in two would result in a 5 ton PA weapon with values of 5, 6, and 8. Since per JTAS 4 the 5 ton barbettes are treated as heavy lasers, my guess would be Beam lasers, and the USP in the Registration Number block is 4 is it a USP 4 laser requires 10 points and a USP of 5 requires 20 points.

The Gazelle found in Supplement 7 could be a hybrid of CT LBB 2 1977 and CT LBB 5 HG 2e 1980 or a straight CT LBB 5 HG 2e 1980.

The Supplement 9 Gazelle I am leaning towards CT LBB 5 HG 2e 1980 but it could be another hybrid using CT LBB 2 1977, 1981.

A quick calculation suggests that the design includes the gig as part of the 300 ton hull, how this is done is no clear.

Hmmmm, Well I guess should NOT be considered part of the hull then.

So, I then I would say that the Gazelle would need to have, if the tanks were jettisoned, enough fuel for a 320dT hull.

That would be 160 tons by CT HG calculations, I believe, but didn't CT LBB2 use a different method to calculate jump fuel requirements?

btw, is the 'Gazelle' a CT LBB2 design or a CT HG one?

Hello again Phil,

If the gig is considered to be part of the 300 ton hull my calculations leave 3 tons of space with and without drop tanks provided that one of the PA barbettes and two of the staterooms are dropped.

I guess if they ditched the tanks (sounds to me as if they aren't the usual 'drop tanks'), then, in order to make J5, they'll have to ditch the 'armed gig' also.
*Unless* this is considered a sort of 'conformal' config in which the 'gig' is considered part of the hull.

Hello all,

The CT Gazelle is built on a 300 ton hull that per CT Supplement 7 pages 30 and 34 the 20 ton armed gig is "slung beneath the ship, with interlocking hatches provided" and " A reception passage (9) allows access to the ship's gig, which is carried in brackets on the ventral surface."

This suggests that the gig is carried externally versus internally, if this is the case would the hull starts out as 320 tons since the drop tanks add 100 tons?
