Subject: [TML] those pesky random encounter tables...

I seem to have been rolling on the extremes of any such table today.

This morning in the coffee queue I was immediately in front of a rather attractive lady I managed to identify from a couple of words to the baristas was Swedish.  Well, that was all the encouragement I needed to try out (pretty much all of?) my Swedish while we waited for drinks to be made.  She was both surprised and then admitted to being impressed I could manage so much.

But the universe obviously decided that needed balancing out and on the bus home I noticed an awful smell of urine and assumed, rather pityingly, that one of the half dozen elderly ladies in front of me must be having problems.  A few minutes later I turned enough to realize it was "John" in the seat behind me.  He's well known in our village and our church for knowing exactly when to turn up for a cup of tea and must have "issues" at the very least.  Anyway, he got anxious about the route the bus was taking and started quizzing me on whether the bus was going in the right direction and in the process managed to sneeze all over me.  <sigh>  No wonder I've just got out of a long bath in which I hijacked all my wife/daughter smelly things...

Anyway, it got me thinking that if you're tired of the Core Rulebook encounter table or just want something 'lighter' to spice up a queue at the starport bar or the net shuttle the PCs are on, perhaps we can crowdsource a d66 table with everyone else's encounters of the day/week.  I could also add the (new) Head of Department at the uni who decided he'd neither met me properloy or seen the uni library so perhaps today would be a good day to drop in.  I thought it would be a short coffee chat and a quick look round and it turned out to be 2 1/4 hours he was so chatty and interested.  So that's half a die already generated if anyone else wants to join in:

1/1 In the queue at the starport bar you recognize the accent of someone nearby - either from your homeworld or a world you're familiar with or have recently visited.  They're very attractive and respond well to your efforts to show off bits of shared culture/language/experience.

1/2 The local Head of SPA/Govt Dept of Customs/TAS concierge/University "International" Officer decides they need to get out more and see who's who in port and want a tour of your ship.  Eager to please a prestigious(?) local who might be the door to trade/passenger links, you find it turns into a three hour marathon tour of the ship and personnel and systems which is very friendly and uncovers lots of shared experience.

1/3 On an orbital shuttle, the passenger in the seat beside you (or immediately behind/in front) would appear to be the local down-and-out who seems to have raised the Credits for the trip.  Unfortunately, almost vomit inducing hygiene problems are an issue and in asking you for directions, manages to sneeze all over one side of you.  Other passengers seem to recognize the local and give you an encouraging thumbs-up in your attempts to deal with the sophont.
