It is helpful to remember there are two damage scales in MGT2. The personal scale as the regular rules. And the vehicle scale. If you are using one or the other it works as you would expect, a 4D weapon does 14 damage against armor. When you mix the two is where you add the x10 multiplier. Vehicle/starship weapons do horrific damage against people, and personal weapons have a /10 damage against vehicle armor.

Hi there,

I wonder if I could ask for help.  I'm trying to convert the Ghoerruegh G-Carrier in MgT1 Alien Module 2: Vargr (p.63) to MgT2 and am running into difficulties because the vehicle design systems are different enough and my lack of knowledge of AFVs and weapons etc.  (Not helped by Supplement 5-6: Vehicle Handbook having the same vehicle on p.132 with a lot of similarities but also some large differences: Agility, Hull/Structure, Cost, Mass for example).

So I guess my first question, is the Ghoerruegh and AFV?  It doesn't say so but some of its features make it feel as if it is.  That then makes my MgT2 *very* expensive in comparison.  But ok.  Not really an issue for the purposes (the PCs won't be buying one).

Next up is what TL it is?  It clearly *says* it's TL10 but then it has a Nuclear Fusion-12 power plant.  Doesn't that make it TL12?   I'm inclining towards making it 12 anyway as that means that the Armour it gets as default is '4' under the new rules matching what it has under the old.

On which subject, I *think* I'm right in saying that it gets Armour 4 without having to pay any cost or spaces.  Anything more would cost.  Am I right?

I am, as usual, struggling with 'spaces' and knowing how many it should be.  AM2 doesn't say but tells me it's 30m^3 and 9,858kg.  To me that means 20 spaces?  But I'm not sure.

And then the biggest snag.  So far.  Weapon.  It has a Plasma A Gun (dorsal external traversing).  This (from Supplement 5-6: Vehicle Handbook) does 14d6 Destructive damage, costs a MCr1, takes up 16 spaces(!).
- I can't find (in MgT1 Core Rulebook or Supplement 5-6) what 'destructive' damage does although I'm sure I've seen it somewhere
- the weapon doesn't exist in MgT2 Vehicle Handbook nor even anything that appears to be close.  I've been trying to match by damage (but it's different*), cost/TL etc and not having much success.  The Light Laser Cannon (p.42 of VH) looks maybe the closest although a bit lightweight in comparison.  Ironically, the description reads "while lacking the punch of larger implementations of laser technology..." but there doesn't seem to be anything in VH that *is* a larger implementation.  So I supposed I could invent something.  How does this sound?
Laser Cannon TL12, Range 2, 9D, 3 tons, 9 spaces, Cost Cr10,000 AP10

(I was going to make the damage a bit more but was trying to keep it a bit less than the Gauss Cannon which comes in at TL12 and does 1DD damage (so an average of 35).  Wondering if it's a bit cheap and should be Cr50,000?)

(I can't believe I'm actually inventing a weapon - normally there's way more than I need to choose from!)

oh, and in any case, from the "dorsal external traversing" does that mean it needs a small turret, large turret, no turret?  From the look of the picture it's just on a (pintle?) and mounted on top could be aimed pretty much anywhere.

Right, enough now.  Help appreciated but I'll probably muddle through if no one cares!  It would have been easier to start from scratch and I know it doesn't matter for the kind of game I run, but it's part of a Steve Ellis adventure I'd like to publish so I'd like to get it as 'right' as possible!

* this is *really*, *really* not helped by there being no explanation of what 'Destructive' means in any of MgT1 Core Rulebook, Supplement 5, Supplement 6, Supplement 5-6 (where it gets used) or Central Supply.
I finally tracked it down in the MgT2 Core Rulebook.  Multiply damage by 10.  <sigh>  I knew I'd read it but it's not fair putting stuff into MgT1 that then aren't explained anywhere.  How hard would it have been to add a paragraph to Supplement 5-6?!

And am I really reading it right?  "14d6 Destructive".  An average of 490 damage?!  (3.5 x 14 x 10) Wow!
