Disagree on jump drive (other than pressing the engage button and lining up the approach). Even then, maybe the Nav should hit 'jump'. The engineer has more to do with the Jump Drive mechanism and the Nav with the plotting. The pilot flying an approach is just doing what he'd normally do in any controlled space scenario except he'd be heeding his Nav's guidance.

And ship's pilots that have to land are probably at least as well educated as smaller craft pilots as they have to deal with a larger craft in atmo. And any small craft that is going to go orbital or intra-system needs exactly the same training as a ship's pilot doing that (for comparable sizes).

I can't see a sensible reason these skills should be different. I know they are canonically, but that really comes off as a flavour thing just like every weapon being unique and skill with body pistol does not give you skill with auto pistol... which is not really the real world.

Note in one of the early adventures air/rafts in zero g required Shipsboat skill to operate.

Also note the skill acquisition tables pilot generally on the advanced education table (edu8+)

Shipsboat also talks more about aerospace operations, while Pilot briefly discusses atmospheric flight, it primarily allows the operation of the Jump Drive..
