Dreadnoughts at short range have absurd firepower ...

Turn 3, the Romulus Augustus was destroyed, the Benjamin Harrison is nearly wrecked, and Kaiser Wilhelm is very heavily damaged, but can still maneuver, the Arbellatra is heavily damaged (only luck saved her from having her spine snapped, same with the Uncle Willy), and the Ikimidaluus hasn't lost many systems, but it doesn't have much in the way of "padding" hits left to take. (You can probably guess which ships are Solomani from the names ...) Overall, the Solomani had somewhat worse luck on the rolls that really counted.

With offset, or a slower approach, there would be more fencing with the spinals, missiles, and bay particle beams. When you're at "almost everything hits" range, the damage potential is crazy. If you're superior in spinals and missiles, you want to keep the range open as much as possible. With spinals, you need to pivot to track the target, but with missiles you can apply lateral thrust to force the attackers into a spiral approach. If the attackers have spinals, they have to choose between thrusting directly at you on a pure pursuit course (producing a spiral) or they give up spinal shots to perform a lead pursuit. It's an interesting tactical dilemma.

White are "open" windows on the firing arc. The display is known as a "fishbowl" because you can think of it as a sphere around that ship that's been unwrapped.

Game summary here: https://www.adastragames.com/squadron-strike

The big grid here shows that sphere that's being unwrapped.

Neat. On the 'sphere' parts on the Harrisoon ship sheet, why are some regions black and the others white?

Everyone has been trying to keep spinal mounts bearing, so it's like two cavalry charges meeting ...

The Benjamin Harrison got seriously worked over by Imperial spinal mesons and particle bays. https://cf.geekdo-images.com/imagepagezoom/img/rrZzTBmFFvDLLa69lDfFMMCZjQY=/fit-in/1200x900/filters:no_upscale()/pic5581895.png

(I'm just spectating as I work)
