Oh, heck yeah! Even the ones that could also be filed under "Romance" on the bookstore's new book shelves are quite good. ("A Civil Campaign" got a positively glowing review from Romantic Times magazine when it came out.)

Bujold's "Falling Free" and "Ethan of Anthos" are set in the same fictional universe and quite worth your time; "Falling Free" is a classic Engineer As Hero work, while "Ethan of Anthos" explores some of the ways that advanced biotech (in this case reliable artificial wombs) could impact human society..
