I forgot one. Dark Matter jumps sometimes seem to take at least a few days (long enough for the crew to complain about the same food at every meal) and sometimes only a few hours (such as when Two "went away" in the pilot).

But - as you say - the only really big one is instant FTL comms. They even have giant megacorps running everything of significance out on the rim and fighting wars between themselves pretty much with impunity, while the Galactic Authority looks on like a futuristic U.N.
