Which is what inspired me with my speculation. All sides in the Ancient's war seem to have been very thorough about destroying all targets with military significance, so it seemed strange that a large cache of "defence shield generators" had been left intact. But if these devices were actually "carburator parts" - with it never having occurred to the Ancients in question that they could be repurposed as defense shields - then their survival makes a bit more sense.
