Wouldn't work for me, I'm afraid. IMTU, the Solomani assumed that the Imperium would hesitate to destroy historic cities and would therefore attempt a ground assault. Instead, the Emperor of the time (who was not the canon one as I use a compressed timeline) ordered the use of kinetic bombardment until the defense forces surrendered unconditionally. He then abdicated in apology for the resulting massive civilian death toll and ecosystem destruction.

E.g. Post-FIrefly, I wanted a rationale for having everyone refer to pre-Rim War Terra as "Earth-That-Was." :)
