The history, however odorous, of the reign of the Vilani Empire would have been available. IIRC somewhere in the CT timeline there is mention that the 3rd Imperium used pacification methods similar to the 1st Imperium.

Of course I'm probably confused.

Based on the history of Sylea - and the fact that the racial Sylean "hillbilly" holdouts were a somewhat-privileged and even celebrated minority - the Vilani would have been in fairly bad historical odor as the First Imperium was coming into being. So while many features of the "new" Imperium were unavoidably similar to the first one (particular the dominance of megacorps), this would have probably not been consciously acknowledged.
