The frozen tundra planet _____  has a creature much like the Sarlacc in Star Wars.
The local crime lord has been using it for years as a dumping ground for people he wants to disappear - he tosses them into the Abyss Beast's maw, and the problem is solved for him.

What no one knew until last month, however, is that the Abyss Beast does not eat or digest these Sophont Snacks. Instead, it injects them with a venom that works like Fast, putting them in hibernation for 25,24,23,22,etc years.
Every 25 years, it goes into its mating mode, where it injects all the stored victims with gametes and a hormone which gives them an overpowering urge to home in on the faint pheromones of other Abyss Beasts to deliver the "goods"

If the 'carriers' are too far away from another Abyss Beast to catch a whiff, the hormone just makes them really grump, vindictive, and violent.

The Crime Lord hires the players as bodyguards, since his usual ones are either dead or in the hospital.
It seems a bunch of people who are on the "missing presumed dead" list have been appearing and trying to kill him....

Oh, I've seen that a time or three. :) But I actually didn't have that consciously in mind.

Let me guess . . . You've been watching Event Horizon?

A small fraction of psionics experience extreme pleasure and boosted capabilities when they spend more than an hour or so in the fringes of a jump field, where alien physics begin to leak through just a little bit. Many also develop mental instabilities. All of these effects fade out over the course of several days after the last exposure.

During an emergency, a tramp trader's engineer must do an EVA while in jumpspace. He does not know he has latent psi powers; he just knows that while on the EVA he experiences a growing sense of euphoria and power. The next day he comes up with an excuse to go back out ("I should really check on those repairs..."), and then does so again later the same day. His affect becomes increasingly manic, and his behavior worryingly bizarre. He resists any attempt to stop him from doing increasingly frequent and lengthy EVAs, and starts talking about his "big plans."

The nature, power, and manifestations of the engineer's psi powers are left for the GM to determine.

This time, you don't get a whole setup. You just get an "inspirational"
