I can picture some mining world with lots of radioactive elements and minimal hydrocarbons being left stranded by the Long Night
All the miners would have had gene mods for radiation tolerance... Which would have true bred
Give them mostly TL6 with a single foundry for super-dense metal to make reactor shielding...
I can picture them meeting the scout ship with a nuke jet / Orion space plane. Cruise forever in atmosphere, and a dozen or so Davy Crocket style "thumpers" for going exo-atmo and returning
