ISTR that the sector  cap of the Trojan Reach was a TL16 Hi-Pop system so just about anything should/could be avail incl an up-to-date fleet of whatever size might be desired.

Subject: [TML] Some thoughts on Pirates of Drinax.

I've had a chance to skim through the campaign and decided to offer some thoughts based on it.

First up, I'd strongly recommend anyone planning to run this obtains a copy of either the film 'Flash Gordon' or the first season of the British TV series 'Blackadder', Brian Blessed's performance in either one, was probably the model for the King of Drinax.

Second up, take advantage of the fact that the original source (apocryphal though some of it is.) for the Trojan Reach is available. Several of the issues of The Third Imperium contain scenarios that could be woven into the campaign, with the scenario in issue 9, standing out in this regard. Other issues worth investigating are issue 2, which has four Aslan ships designed using High Guard, one of which is the only Aslan fighter design I've seen and issue 12 which features an Imperial 'Assault Cruiser'. All of these will need conversion to Mongoose Travellers version of High Guard.

The issues can be found at this website. All thanks to Joshua Bell for preserving them and making them available.

Thirdly, in Challenge issue 37, there is a 2300AD scenario 'Three Blind Mice' by David Nilsen, which while built around a scouting campaign, contains a lot of advice on just how to run the scenario that will be very useful in running 'Pirates of Drinax'. JTAS 19, which contains 'The Ecology of Piracy in the Spinward Main' and  Challenge 25 which contains the article 'Bait: Q-Ships in Traveller' are also worth seeking out for material which is useful. Also worth considering is Challenge 60's MegaTraveller article 'Ships of the Black War', several of the ships in that article actually entered Imperial service prior to the Fifth Frontier War (Which is still in the future...)  and might turn up as part of the 198th PF, either as some of the ships swept up by Vice Admiral Krond, or later on, for the latter I'm assuming Krond pulls some strings, or someone higher up decides to give some additional crews experience/test a new design in a combat situation.

One way to justify this is to assume that when the supply ship is escorted back to Imperial space the swap takes place then.

More to follow as they come to me.

Graham
