Above 800 is usually considered fatal, pretty much regardless of
conditions. Under 250-300 used to be considered reasonably survivable,
but the old texts failed to take into account all the other sources of
physical and psychological stress someone thoroughly irradiated in a war
would probably be experiencing, and that's now considered a dose quite
likely to kill you (unpleasantly, like all those lovely tropical diseases).
