Or the people who came up with the 3I didn't have the same level of
knowledge and rigor (and hindsight) we apply to the setting, and just
went with what was known at the time or simply Rule of Cool.

At this point, we've had 40+ years for science to advance and bored
nerds to obsessively chew over and nitpick stuff that was probably
thought up in an afternoon, on deadline, or straight-up copied from
someone's favorite book(s).
