 Last time I checked
 this was the life expectancy at birth. So, if you
 made it to young adulthood you could expect to
 live to well past thirty.

 Also, much the same applies to pre-industrial
 farmers, and city dwellers

 off, cities being horribly unhealthy.

Interestingly, I recall reading an article way back when SPI published S&T mag (late 70's) where it was stated that during the Mexican-American War the army *prefered* recruits from the cities as they were considered healthier than ones from rural areas! It specifically mentioned that malaria was a problem in many areas esp the w/i the Mississippi Basin.
