Before I checked the dates (a decade or two too late), I would have bet
money the aircraft in question was a F-104 - mostly on the strength of
the tale that the best way to acquire one of those notoriously
unfortunate birds was to buy a plot of German farmland and wait for a
Starfighter to fall on it.
