Over the weekend I was at the gas station filling the car and wondered
whether there aren't different qualities of fuel used by ships and
boats.  I have to put premium in this car (Lotus Esprit), but the daily
driver runs fine on regular.  Could there be additives, essentially
catalysts, that would make a "premium" fuel (say it reduces fuel
consumption by x% in normal drives, but some performance drives - racing
pinnace for example, require it).  Also, could some locations - gas
giants, oceans, ice sheets, ice balls, etc. - provide a similar
treatment, or, perhaps it is "cleaner" and allows additional time
between overhauls.
