FW: anyone have a creative solution for large-scale removal of puncturevine seeds at a recently infested site? Dana Morawitz 21 Nov 2019 11:44 PST
Hi all!
Does anyone have any tips for San Diego Audobon on puncture vine removal? Here’s the question:
Just started helping at an Audubon bird nesting restoration site which has a major, new puncturevine infestation. Unfortunately, the nesting season coincided perfectly with puncturevine germination and seed production so now they’re faced with trying to remove hundreds of thousands of puncturevine seeds before the site is closed again starting next March. Can you post this question for me on CalWeedTalk?
Does anyone have a creative solution for large-scale removal of puncturevine seeds at a recently infested site? The site has sandy soil and few native plants in the affected area. The usual method of stomping the seeds onto a piece of carpet or foam pad would require several thousand hours of volunteer labor so we need some alternative ideas.

You can also contact Meghan: (flaherty@sandiegoaudubon.org<mailto:flaherty@sandiegoaudubon.org>) and Susan Mason (smason908@gmail.com<mailto:smason908@gmail.com> ) directly.

Many thanks!
Dana
