Remember that pre-internet, the first anyone would've known would be the
pre-release announcements, as with MegaTraveller. Note that they did
know what they were doing - if you look at the publication order, etc.,
they clearly had a plan and were following it, and were producing TNE
product up until the (not-TNE induced) end.

And yes, I'm aware that the TML's overall response to TNE was pretty
negative, to the point that TNE fans ended up having their own mailing
list because of the constant negativity.
