This sound to me much like the plas to make Pi equal to 3
 by

  legislative fiat.

Funny how Dvorak never really caught on.

I recall when it was so highly touted that 'qwerty'
was seen as a soon-to-be forgotten relic.

 I
type Dvorak and LOVE it but I don't expect it to ever
take over. Anyone can use it on any computer without even
having to pay. It makes typing feel like you have psychic
powers. I would expect typing to die out within 20 years for
most people as voice tech becomes much better. I am sure
that some will continue with typing but only the pros of
 certain fields.

Although I don't use it myself, I've observed just about every version of that 'Dragon' voice-to-print app & I've definitely noticed that it's vastly improved.
On a side note, I read an article a few years back that stated that schools are no longer teaching children to write in cursive!

Getting back to Trav, I remember reading a world write-up a long time ago (could've even been MT) where I encountered the term 'post-literate society'.
At the time I thought, "what the heck", but after cogitating for a while I figured that if there was universal access to various & insundry electronic devices, writing itself could actually become obsolete.
Right after that, while maintaining a commercial large-scale laser printer, I came upon instruction brochures w/ only a minimum amount of legally required printing (almost all were mandatory warnings).
All the actual instructions/directions were indicated by graphics, some of which were a bit of a challenge to decipher.
I couldn't help but think that things were progressing much faster than I had anticipated.
