 The upshot of
this is that if anyone wants to know what the Chinese
economy is worth in REAL terms based on application of EU or
USA standards, just halve the figure officially quoted.

 So you
probably never heard this before either because most
professional economists are just waiting to see when the
Chinese economy will overtake the US economy. The answer is,
if one is honest about it, probably in 2-300 years...if both
countries still exist in their current economic form. But of
 course they will not. :-)

 And how much
of this thinking went into the CT TU in 1977?

The short answer, of course, is 'NONE', right? ;-)

And we're dealing not only w/ theorizing the 1100+y economic history of the 3I, but also the 'Long Night', 2I, & the really, really long economic history of the Vilani before that!

Historical Note;

Way back in 1976 I bought a Datsun B-210.

The quality of japanese cars at that time was way above amercian cars but can't even come close to the Buick I bought in 2004.

How times change!

I remember when my dad bought a used 1959 Chevy wagon back in 1965.

Only six years old & w/ only 39,000 miles but it looked like an old wreck.

I eventually 'inherited' it & managed to keep it going only 'cuz I did most of the maint myself.

I finally 'hulked' it in FEB1974 after the gasoline 'crisis' here in the USA & the concomitant BIG jump in price.

By then it was a real wreck.

I kept the B-210 going for about 11 1/2 years till it was a real 'rattletrap' that had trouble passing emissions tests.
It had about 96,000 miles on it by then.

I've had the Buick for a little over 10 years now & it still looks, feels, & operates great.
Most expensive troubles so far has been a) replacing the tires & b) replacing the battery!
