According to a PBS special (about Stalingrad) that aired some years back,
Yeltsin opened up the archives when he in power & allowed a number of researchers access to them.
One of the discoveries mentioned was that the Strategic Withdrawal he supposedly ordered at the beginning of the german offensive was a propaganda lie. In actuality he issued the usual 'hold at all costs' order & was so infuriated when it wasn't obeyed that he turned the NKVD loose on the Red Army. A number of primary sources were mentioned incl personal diaries.

Now, if you're basing your conclusions on the propaganda that the USSR released for public consumption  it should be no surprise that others do NOT share your faith in your conclusions as such conclusions invariably become influenced by an individual's subjective beliefs.
