Re: [BAA Comets] C/2020 X3 and C/2020 S3 imaged during the recent total eclipse Nick James 28 Dec 2020 22:38 UTC
Hi all, I have reprocessed most of my image data from the Dec 14 eclipse and now have a colour version of the image that shows the two eclipse comets: http://www.nickdjames.com/eclipse2020/eclipse_20201214_161000_ndj.jpg The main image is 21 x 14 deg FoV zenith up (i.e. almost celestial south up). C/2020 S3 (Erasmus) is greenish and has a nice tail. C/2020 X3 (SOHO) is yellowish. The CME is visible to the right of the sun in this view and the corona stretches out 3 degrees or so. I got a magnitude of 5.1 for C/2020 S3 and 6.1 for C/2020 X3 using the green channel of this camera. The rectangle shows an FoV of 1.5 x 1.0 deg which corresponds to the FoV of my long focal length camera system. An image of the corona and prominences taken by this system is here: http://www.nickdjames.com/eclipse2020/eclipse_20201214_1610_ndj.jpg Nick.
