The RNZAF used to ferry A4 Skyhawks across to Australia and back by
having a pair fly out with drop tanks, one with an in-flight refuelling
drogue pod, and then fuel one off the other. One flew on, the other
turned round and flew home. On the way back, same thing, but the single
meets up with the 'tanker' then they fly home together.
