Let's run those numbers as a quick experiment
Jump Number is a multiplier on maximum movement
M-Drive rating is how many parsecs you move in a week
J1 - 1-6 parsecs/week
J2 - 2-12 parsecs/week
J3 - 3-18 Parsecs/week
J4 - 4-24 Parsecs/week
J5 - 5-30 Parsecs/week
J6 - 6-36 Parsecs/week
Obviously, the military would focus on getting the maximum Jump, plus
Maximum thrust. Since that doesn't leave very much space for any
mission packages, that means... Hangers, lots of them. Bring on the
Tigress-Class BATTLERIDER (now make it even more terrifying with no
jump fuel needs). Brought to you by Dahak's big brother.
Megacorps would pull the same thing, pulling huge ferry loads of ships
between sector capitols. Lesser lines would gather the cream of an
entire subsector's trade routes and then ship them off via the
megacorp ferries. Rich worlds will buy J6 M6 couriers and fight to
make most of their sector dance to their tune.
On the other hand, lots of space for the little guy. The marginal
markets are barely tapped since, as I stated before, the big guys can
concentrate on only the richest markets.
