As I recall, “early” jump requires an endpoint.

Later, like in the 3i, jump tech and computers have gotten good enough to allow jump to exit anywhere.

So it depends on TL and the era.

I’m sure grandfather has some even better jump tech (human sized? No restrictions on 100d limits? Both?)
